A Melbourne Evening

After a week of pretty spectacular winter weather, it finally all changed in Melbourne with the rains sweeping in. I left work a little early to get a haircut, and decided to take a few shots in the city on a Friday evening as I walked across to meet my appointment. Friday evenings have a certain charm in Melbourne. For a start, it is one of two nights in the week (Thursday being the other) when late night shopping is available. This means that the city is still well and truly alive after work, as office workers breathe a sigh of relief as the unwind for the weekend.

Several individuals take the opportunity to leave early to catch up with colleagues for a few drinks. Other scurry back and forth to catch public transport to spend a few well-earned hours with their families. Hip college and university students congregate in the cool areas to make and execute their plans for the evening. Young couples take the opportunity to walk through Melbourne’s many shopping arcades to spend a little time with each other while leaving the worries of the work week behind (albeit, just for a couple of days).

Shot in time-lapse, this short video is one in a series that I am working on, and is my attempt to convey life in the world’s most livable city. This is only a first cut, and not the finished product.
